Earnings and Scoring
How Points Are Calculated
Overview
PlanetPoints are calculated based on both the carbon rating and nutrition rating of each product. Both ratings matter - a low score in either will reduce your points, and an E in either means no points.
Rating Values
Products receive A-E ratings for both carbon impact and nutrition. Each rating corresponds to points per pound spent:
| Rating | Points per £ |
|---|---|
| A | 3 points |
| B | 2 points |
| C | 1 point |
| D | 0.5 points |
| E | 0 points |
The Formula
Points = Price × [(CarbonScore × NutriScore) ÷ 0.75] × RWhere:
- Price = Item price in pounds (£)
- CarbonScore = Numeric value (A=3, B=2, C=1, D=0.5, E=0)
- NutriScore = Numeric value (A=3, B=2, C=1, D=0.5, E=0)
- R = Receipt Scan Factor
Receipt Scan Factor (R)
| Method | Factor | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Receipt Scan | 0.5 | Half points for manually scanned receipts |
| Standard | 1.0 | Full points for linked transactions |
| Partnered Outlet | 2.0 | Double points at partner retailers |
Examples
Example 1: Receipt Scan with A/B Ratings
Item: £10 purchase
Carbon Rating: A (3 points)
Nutrition Rating: B (2 points)
Method: Receipt scan (R = 0.5)
Points = £10 × (3 × 2 ÷ 0.75) × 0.5
Points = £10 × 8 × 0.5
Points = 40 ptsExample 2: Standard Purchase with A/B Ratings
Same item via linked checkout:
Points = £10 × (3 × 2 ÷ 0.75) × 1.0
Points = £10 × 8 × 1.0
Points = 80 ptsKey Points
- Both ratings matter - Points are multiplied, so a low score in either significantly reduces earnings
- E rating = zero points - An E in either carbon or nutrition means no points for that item
- Receipt scans earn half - Linked purchases at partnered outlets earn full or double points
- Higher spending = more points - But only if you're buying sustainable, healthy products
The better both ratings, the more PlanetPoints you earn.
